The First Thing You Do When You’re in a Hotel Room

While walking into a hotel room is a pleasure and the first thing you do is jump onto the bed, it’s still important to take precautions. For your safety and health, the first thing you should do when you walk into a room.

What could be more pleasant than walking into a hotel room?

As we walk around the room, the last thing on our minds is our safety. However, it’s essential. For this reason, it’s important to make it a habit the moment we open the door to our hotel room. What’s the first thing you do when you walk into a hotel room? On vacation, you want to enjoy the comfort of your room, and you tend to forget about safety precautions. Generally, if all goes well, there will still be unfortunate exceptions that put your safety at risk. To avoid this risk, there’s one important detail to keep in mind.

Checking the locks in hotel rooms is essential

If you want to put down your suitcase as soon as you enter your room, there’s one thing you must do first: check that the door lock is working properly. And for good reason: it’s important to know whether the door has the proper locking mechanism to prevent intruders or hotel staff from entering while you’re asleep. The vast majority of hotels use electronic key cards that allow anyone with a key to access the room. That’s why hotel rooms must have a functional locking mechanism that you can use from the inside to ensure no one enters while you’re in the room.

If this is not the case, you can request a room change. To ensure your safety and prevent break-ins, staff from entering at inconvenient times, or other guests from entering by mistaking your room for theirs, some hotels may provide traditional keys that allow you to lock the room from the inside.

One more habit to adopt when entering a hotel room: There’s another step you can take to enjoy your stay after navigating lockdown. It takes very little time and contributes to your well-being and that of your loved ones.

Check Your Hotel Room for Bed Bugs

Before unpacking your suitcase, take a moment to think ahead to avoid an unpleasant experience. It’s recommended that you check your hotel room for bed bugs.

These pests can also be found on carpets, and they can be difficult to get rid of. To check, first remove the comforter and inspect the sheets. If you see brown spots, they’re likely caused by these tiny creatures. Next, remove the fitted sheet and check for bed bug droppings, which are usually brown or black. These are essential steps to avoid bites and itching.

One thing is certain: safety comes before comfort. For this reason, your hotel room should have an internal locking mechanism. This will help you avoid unfortunate incidents or, at the very least, prevent other guests from entering your room!
